Who needs the gym? They have that smell (yeah you know that one that I mean) and those guys who spend more time looking in the mirror than working through their sets. In my experience more and more women are leaving the gym behind and are simply putting one foot in front of the other and are taking up jogging and running. Depending on where you live, there are bound to be female only running groups springing up.
So why should every woman run? Well besides it being an awesome way to burn calories and help lose weight, here’s why.
Train when and where you want. To go outside and run is the very epitome of exercise freedom! You don’t have to restrict your workouts to certain hours. If it’s a nice evening you can go out and make the most of it. If you are on holiday, you don’t need to search for the elusive hotel gym (which is always in a broom cupboard) you can simply head out and enjoy running and sightseeing in a foreign place.
It’s good for you. Running is good for you, but some of the health benefits are a lot more interesting than the obvious fitness and physique benefits. A recent study conducted in America found that women who run produce a less potent form of oestrogen which helps reduce the risks of developing breast cancer and uterine cancer by fifty percent. Researchers also noticed a sixty-six percent reduction in the risk of the most common types of female diabetes.
Period reduction. Many women who run find that running helps reduce the effects of period cramps which is due to the endorphin that are produced. Running interval training has been shown to be extremely effective and boosting the number of endorphin that are produced during a workout.
Healthy skin. A run can be as good as a trip to the salon. Running stimulates the flushing out of your pores and an increase in circulation which helps your skin feel cleaner and look fresher.
So what are you waiting for; with all these positive benefits isn’t is time you started filling your training log with running data.
