Chose the Best Bikram Yoga Mat

Bikram Yoga is a very popular form of exercise lately.  It includes a specific series of postures done in a hot room.  The heat allows the participant to go deeper into the practice as the muscles have so much more give when warm.  There can be amazing results found in this practice and the beauty is that all you need is a space, an instructor (at least at first) and of course a mat.

If you are planning to make a commitment to Bikram Yoga in the near future all you really need to find is a great mat!  A great mat is a minor investment given that many sports have multiple tools that are needed for participation.  The options that are available for Bikram yoga mats compared to regular yoga are few and far between but they do exist.  There are other options too which include a few different components of yoga props combined, but this article is about Bikram yoga mats.

The Breathe Mat is by far the most well thought out and popular Bikram yoga mat out there.  It is super specific to this type of yoga and designed with Bikram yoga in mind.  This mat that you can find online on the Breathe website comes in six lovely colors that will not bleed when you sweat on them or wash them.  This is very important when you are dealing with loads of sweat.  The mats are preshrunk, slip resistant, and grip the floor on the bottom so that your mats stays put in practice.  There is also a feature designed to cover up your feet for when you have to hold them in certain poses.  This is to give you more grip and adherence with all the added moisture on your hands and feet.

A few other points about this mat are that it is in the $60-$70 price range.  I assure you that this is fairly standard for a well-made good quality yoga mat.  If you are tall you will be happy to know that they have a long version of the mat too.  I’m 6 feet – so this is really great!  Other then that the mat is pretty standard with ultra absorbent and slip free properties for safety.

If the Breathe mat is not for you and you would like something slightly different then you could take a look at the Solace Yoga Mat.  This is a woven mat and has no rubbery or sticky components on top, but instead relies on the natural adherence of the woven material combined with a little moisture.  It is super absorbent so you will not be slipping and sliding in the excess sweat in any way.  This mat is said to wash and wear really well.  This is nice given you are sweating on it every time you use it!  It has a non-skid backing so your mat stays where you put it.  It is basically the same price as the Breathe mat, however it only comes in one size.  It is a good size however as it’s bigger then standard at 29″ width and 74″ length.  So for anyone around the 6 foot mark and under this mat will work fine.

Best of luck shopping for the best Bikram yoga mat for you.  It can be a little tricky, but here are a couple options for you to start with.  If you are not really drawn in by these two choices then there are some other choices out there as well.  Check out Bikram yoga mat options, for more info.
