Why they call it the Lemonade Diet is beyond me. Firstly, there is no lemonade on the menu. Just a concoction of various ingredients that make up the Lemonade diet drink: 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice, 2 tablespoons of organic grade B maple syrup, 1/10 of a teaspoon of cayenne pepper and 8 ounces of spring or distilled water.
To get your bowls moving on the Lemonade Diet, you should start your day by drinking the prescribed saltwater mixture. For this you combine 2 teaspoons of salt and 1 quart of water. Allow at least 30 minutes for the bowls to release before you start your daily routine. Continue your Lemonade Diet fast throughout the day by consuming between 6 and 12 servings of ‘lemonade’ and you can expect to lose between 5 and 10 pounds of body weight within the 10 days suggested.
The Lemonade Diet acts as a fasting diet and has many benefits besides quick weight loss. A fast from solid food allows the body to rest and regenerate. The simple act of digestion uses vast amounts of energy, and, after being deprived of solid food for approximately 3 days, the body’s digestion system shuts down. Quite naturally then, the body’s energy turns to cleansing the blood and detoxifying the tissues. A 10 day Lemonade Diet cleanse can also be used at various intervals throughout the year to remove accumulated waste from your intestines.
The fact that maple syrup forms a part of the Lemonade Diet fast allows you to carry on with your daily life without having to rest due to the dizziness and light headedness that accompanies a straight water fast. The lemon juice itself will act as a liver cleanser and the cayenne pepper a blood alkaliser.
After completing the Lemonade Diet plan, a feeling of lightness will follow and your appetite will have shrunk considerably. This is a good time to kick off a healthy eating plan or kick-start a more sensible diet and exercise regime. It can also remind you of how good it feels to ‘lighten up’.
Apart from the difficulty in keeping up such a strict regime for 10 days, there is another downside to the Lemonade Diet. It’s best summed up by the celebrity famous for touting its benefits, Beyonce Knowles, who reminds us to beware of the binge and honestly states ‘as soon as it was over I gained the weight back’.
