Looking to loose weight fast and have some vacation time? You could take a couple of days off and veg out around the house feeling sorry for your fat self or you could load up your back pack and hit the trail. I am not talking about a day hike here I am talking about a multi day carry all of your equipment backpacking trip. If you want fast weight loss this is the way to get it. I can easily loose 10 pounds on a week long hike and I am not overweight.
Looking at the numbers can be astounding. Lets consider that you are carrying a 50 pound pack, which is often on the light side and hiking 10 miles per day. Keep in mind that you are walking on uneven terrain and up and down hills so it will be more strenuous than regular walking. You could easily burn upwards of 6000 calories per day. Taking enough food to replenish this kind of exertion is a challenge so you will obviously be operating at a deficit. And a deficit causes weight loss. At a rate of precisely 3500 calories per pound of fat.
So looking at the numbers tells us that we can expect to loose more than one pound per day. Not many other weight loss programs can match this type of weight loss. And the best part is that it is fun. Sure you will be hungry and you will probably be pretty worn out by the time you are finished with your hike but you will also be a pound per day lighter and you will have some stories to tell.
I am not going to lie to you and tell you that this is any type of sustainable weight loss program but if you are looking for a way to loose 10 pounds quickly it is much more enjoyable than counting calories and hitting the treadmill.
One thing to keep in mind is that when you return to the real world you will be tempted to gorge on all of the things that you have been depriving yourself of for the last week or so. If you want the weight loss to be permanent resist this urge and exercise some self control.
Fast weight loss can be a challenge and this is just a simple way you can make it fun.
