Increasing Fitness Levels With Stationary Bikes

Stationary bikes are a great piece of exercise equipment for improving your fitness. They have a lot of advantages over other methods of exercise. Being indoor machines, you can workout on your stationary exercise bike whenever you want, no matter what the weather is like outside. This fitness device gives people who live in densely populated areas the chance to enjoy the health benefits of exercise on a bike without having to worry about being hit by a car or having to stop for traffic lights every two minutes. In addition, stationary bike workouts involve no impact on your joints, so you can have a good workout without worrying about damage to your hips, knees or ankles. For that reason, many people think that stationary exercise bikes are superior to electric treadmills for getting a good cardio workout.

Aside from the standard models, you can also use recumbent stationary bikes. The recumbent bikes allow you to sit up like you are in a chair. They have a back rest to help keep you comfortable. When it comes to getting fitter, there is not a big difference between a recumbent stationary bike and the standard ones. However, some people prefer the recumbent bikes because it allows them to do things like read and watch TV more while they are working out. You can read and watch TV on a standard bike, but it is more difficult because those bikes place you into a curled over posture.

If you are wondering how you should go about getting fit with your stationary bike, then keep reading. You do not need to have a complex workout routine. The best way to get fit and lose weight on your bike is to do what is known as interval training. Another name for it is high intensity intermittent training, or HIIT for short. It sounds complicated, but HIIT is just a fancy name for saying: go hard, then ease off, then go hard, then ease off, and so on. With HIIT, you ride as hard and fast as you can for about 10 to 20 seconds, then you slow down to a comfortable pace for 30 to 60 seconds. You then repeat this cycle a few times until you are really pooped.

You may find that you can only do one or two cycles at first. That is OK. If you keep working out consistently, you will rapidly improve your fitness. Before you know it, you will be doing up to a dozen cycles in a single session.

If you do this type of workout three times a week, you will see enormous improvements in your fitness, health and body shape.
